Pilates for Osteoporosis
Category: Other
INSTRUCTOR: Sherri Betz, PT
Class Description:
Here’s a shocking statistic. Worldwide, 1 out of every 2 women and 1 out of every 4 men over age 50 has low bone density! When a person breaks a bone, they don’t feel it, and we can’t hear it. How can we prevent inadvertent injury to our clients? As we may know, flexion exercises are contra-indicated for those with osteoporosis. So how do we strengthen the abdominals? It is essential to meet the needs of this growing population by choosing appropriate exercises, modifying standard Pilates exercises, and eliminating contra-indicated movements. We will discuss the latest controversies in exercise contra-indications for the client with low bone density or previous fracture. In this workshop, you will learn modifications of Pilates apparatus and mat exercises to create the perfect program for younger or older adults with osteopenia or osteoporosis.
