The Story of Yoga: The Meaning Behind Each Asana

Category:  Yoga

INSTRUCTOR:   Jennifer Prugh

Class Description:

How many times have you done Warrior I, II and III? Do you know who they refer to or what significance they have to your own life? The origin of the warrior poses is derived from an ancient story of Lord Shiva, illustrating an incident that occurred in a timeless time long ago, a story of love, attachment, pride, shame, vengeance, violence, sadness, compassion and renunciation. There is a powerful story behind each yoga posture that teaches us how to live wisely and well. Some of these stories are ancient myths that can reflect to us our own deepest drives, obstacles and desires. Like biblical parables, these stories deepen our understanding of the meaning behind our asana practice and our daily lives. As a student your understanding of the deeper implications of the yoga postures will be illuminated. As a teacher you will learn how to comfortably teach a class that provides insightful tools that your students can use to 'walk the talk,' to take their yoga practice out into their every day lives.
